The Five-Minute Cosmo Hour

Chilled can, frosted coupe, one twist of orange. The couture way to open a Friday, no shaker required.

There is a moment, somewhere around six in the evening, when the light turns gold and the day asks for a drink with a little ceremony. Not a project. A ceremony. This is the five-minute Cosmo hour, and it needs exactly three things: a chilled can, a frosted coupe and one twist of orange.

What is the five-minute Cosmo hour?

It is the simplest way to turn a canned cocktail into a proper martini moment. Hunky Dory Cosmo is already a finished drink: premium vodka, cranberry, a squeeze of lime and a whisper of orange, 12% ABV. The only work left is temperature, glass and garnish. Five minutes, start to sip.

Step one: start cold, stay cold

The can goes in the fridge for at least three hours, the coupes in the freezer for ten minutes before you pour. Cold glass keeps the cranberry bright and the vodka velvet. If you are hosting, a silver ice bucket on the bar cart does the work for you.

Step two: the pour

Tilt the coupe and pour slowly down the side, so the drink stays still and glossy.
Stop a finger below the rim. Elegance is a little space.
Twist a strip of orange peel over the glass to release the oils, then drop it in.

Hosting tip: one 4-pack pours four coupes with room for a second round. For six guests, chill two.

Step three: make it a habit

The trick is not the recipe, it is the ritual. Same glass, same twist, same song. Keep a 4-pack of Cosmo behind the milk and the hour takes care of itself.
